Placenta Encapsulation

A Potent Postpartum Remedy

The consumption of placenta, or placentophagy, is a potent remedy and useful preventative care measure during the postpartum period. Packed with essential vitamins, minerals and hormones, the placenta provides many with extra support in the days and weeks after giving birth. Placenta encapsulation makes consumption palatable and easy. Learn more about the benefits of placenta encapsulation here.

Professional Encapsulation

Our encapsulation process is overseen by Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialists who received the Placenta Benefits Training and Certification. We always work with non-latex gloves in a highly sanitized work space, and use vegetarian capsules.

Method

We use the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method of encapsulation. In TCM theory, the process of labor and birth leaves a lot of open, empty space, which is considered very yin, or cold. Therefore, many people seek to promote healing during the postpartum period by adding yang energy via what Chinese herbalists refer to as "heat". Using the TCM encapsulation method, first we steam the placenta, then we cut up, dehydrate and grind the placenta, and finally we place the powder in capsules. The placenta is steamed for a short time in order to preserve the qualities of the placenta, while also killing any harmful bacteria. The final result is a warming, tonifying, and nourishing remedy for the postpartum period.

Why Encapsulate And Consume Your Placenta?

The consumption of the placenta after birth is a common practice, and for good reason. The postpartum period can be challenging for many people, up to 80% of whom experience some form of postpartum depression or "baby blues", a mental and emotional state characterized by anxiety, feelings of discontent, and weepiness. Consuming the placenta is seen to remarkably counteract this phenomenon, restoring physical and emotional balance after giving birth.

Most of those who consume their placenta report faster recovery, improved feelings of strength, energy and balance, more breast milk, and improved moods. It is said that consuming a small part of the placenta immediately after birth reduces blood loss, and longer term consumption replenishes essential vitamins, minerals and hormones, as well as reduces the incidence of postpartum depression. All of these amazing benefits are likely due to the fact that a healthy placenta contains an incredible amount of iron, vitamin B6, vitamin E, oxytocin, corticotropin, stem cells, and cytokines.
